Know Before You Go: Helpful Information for Spring Break Travelers

Spring Break is almost here, and Clinton National Airport is preparing for the busy travel season. Nearly 100,000 travelers are expected to pass through the airport over the next two weeks, with Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20 anticipated to be the busiest travel days. Whether you’re headed for snow in the mountains or sunshine at the beach, we encourage passengers to plan ahead and allow extra time for their trip.

Allow Extra Time before Departure

Increased passenger traffic throughout the terminal may also mean additional time is needed for ticketing, security screening and concessions. Airport officials recommend passengers arrive at least two hours before departure if checking bags or visiting the ticket counter. To help move through security faster, travelers should begin packing with an empty bag to avoid accidentally bringing prohibited items. Passengers with disabilities or medical conditions can contact TSA Cares for screening assistance.

Partial Government Shutdown Affecting TSA

In addition to increased passenger traffic, this year’s Spring Break travel time includes an additional challenge: the partial government shutdown impacting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including the Transportation Security Administration (TSA.) TSA employees have been working without pay since February 14, which can contribute to staffing shortages and longer lines at security checkpoints nationwide. Currently, passengers departing from LIT are not experiencing long wait times or major disruptions at TSA; however, travelers may encounter delays at other airports during their return trip.

Parking May Reach Capacity During Peak Travel

Spring Break means more passengers at LIT. While the airport has recently added new parking spaces to our East Economy Lot, officials encourage travelers to plan ahead and allow extra time to park. You can even check out parking options on our website ahead of time. Those picking up arriving passengers can take advantage of free short-term parking for up to 45 minutes in the East Economy Lot across from the ticket lobby and baggage claim.

New Curbside Canopy Now Open

The airport’s curbside canopy is now open and designated exclusively for departing passenger drop-off. The covered area provides protection from rain and wind while improving traffic flow at the terminal entrance.

Additional Travel Tips

*Liquids must be 3.4 oz or less and placed in a clear plastic bag.

*Have your Real ID and boarding pass ready at security.

*Keep laptops and electronics easily accessible for screening.

*Download your airline’s app and use it to check for schedule updates before leaving for the airport and while traveling to your final destination.

Travelers looking to save time may also consider using carry-on luggage to avoid checked bag lines during peak travel times.

Spring Break travel often means full flights and busy airports. Allowing extra time, remaining patient and staying flexible will help ensure a smooth travel experience for everyone. Clinton National Airport wishes everyone safe travels and a relaxing Spring Break!
