Clinton National Airport Stands Ready for Incoming Winter Weather

Winter weather is expected throughout the state this weekend, and Clinton National Airport (LIT) is working to ensure safe and continuous operations during the approaching winter storm. Airport crews are prepared to monitor conditions and clear airfield and terminal surfaces to help keep the airport open and operating safely.

Winter weather can affect air travel, and passengers are encouraged to check directly with their airlines for the latest information on flight delays and cancellations.

Airport Operations:

  • When winter weather is expected, LIT crews begin proactive preparations. Snow and ice require different response strategies, so planning varies based on the type, amount and duration of precipitation.
  • Clinton National Airport’s goal is to remain open whenever possible. Airfield employees work around the clock to prevent the buildup of ice and snow on runways and taxiways so aircraft can operate safely. Crews also continually clear ramps, terminal walkways, and roadways throughout the airport.
  • Airport crews use specialized vehicles and equipment dedicated to snow/ice removal, including snow brooms, plow trucks, snow blowers, de-icing trucks and tractors.

Airline Operations:

  • Individual airlines manage flight schedules and provide the most up-to-date information on delays and cancellations. Passengers should monitor airline mobile apps, email alerts and text messages for real-time updates.
  • Airlines are responsible for all aspects of ticketing, baggage, gate operations, and ramp services.
  • The airport is responsible for clearing runways and taxiways, while airlines handle aircraft deicing, including staffing, application and equipment maintenance.
  • Even if LIT remains open, winter weather in other parts of the country could impact airline schedules this weekend and early next week.

Passenger Information:

  • Allow extra time to get to the airport due to potentially hazardous road conditions.
  • Arrive at least two hours before scheduled departure time. This is especially important during winter weather when flight details may change.
  • Check in online before coming to the airport, using the airline’s mobile app or website.
  • Monitor the airline’s mobile app, email alerts and text messages for the most current flight information.
